PCPS offers a Safer Alternative to Silicone Implants®

November 13, 2018

Drs. Nichter and Horowitz perform hundreds of breasts surgeries every year. And while both doctors offer silicone and saline implants, they agree on the importance of informing prospective patients of the pros and cons of the different types.

“There are new reports stating concerns about silicone implants and we feel it is of the utmost importance to get this information out to women considering breast implants,” explains Dr. Nichter.

Dr. Nichter recently presented the release of the 7-year FDA Ideal Structured Implant trial date at the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. The data showed an increased risk of capsular contractures and rupture rates for all other silicone and saline implants currently available in the United States.

There have also been recent concerns with silicone implants, which are noted in an article in the Annals of Plastic Surgery. The FDA has responded by announcing they plan to schedule a public meeting of medical advisors in 2019 to discuss breast implant safety.

Cosmetic breast procedures are extremely popular, with about 400,000 women in the U.S. undergoing breast implant surgery. Most women choose silicone implants because they are said to look and feel more like natural breasts. However, they also come with the risk for rupture, and silicone gel must be removed right away, or it could cause harm to the body. That is why the doctors at PCPS recommend a newer, safer option for breast implants: The Ideal Implant.

The Ideal Implant

The ideal implant is a saline implant option that offers a more natural feel than traditional saline implants. It is created with a unique structure that allows a similar look and feel as silicone implants, but without the worry for silent rupture.

The Ideal Implant® offers many benefits over other types of implants including:

  • Easy to remove
  • Smaller incision
  • Higher rupture strength
  • Lower capsular contracture and rupture rate
  • No MRI scans needed to detect ruptures
  • No silent ruptures
  • Offered implant protection plans

At PCPS, we are seeing an increase in women requesting the Ideal Implant. While Dr. Nichter and Dr. Horowitz continue to perform breast augmentation with silicone, saline, and the Ideal implant, they believe the more the public knows about the growing concerns over the safety of silicone and the issue with silent ruptures, they will continue to see women shift away from silicone and opt for the safer option the Ideal Implant offers.

Wow! Not only am I thrilled with my results, I also must say that this experience was so much easier than I thought it would be! From the virtual consultation, to the virtual appointments that I had after my surgery… they made it so easy to check in with my doctor. I don’t live in Newport, but it didn’t matter. I was still able to get the surgery that I wanted there! 10/10 would recommend!!
