Life-Changing Results

Arm Lift

As we age and our bodies change, upper arm skin can become loose and flabby. Even at your ideal weight, you may feel self-conscious about stubborn fat or excess skin and avoid clothing or activities that display your arms. No matter what your concern is, our expert surgeons at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery want to help you feel comfortable and confident in your body.

An arm lift procedure involves lifting and toning your upper arms. With multiple techniques available to address your unique needs, this procedure may provide a more defined arm contour and a more youthful overall appearance.

What is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, also known as a brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure that addresses your upper arms by removing excess skin and tightening your tissue. This technique can help you achieve more toned upper arms and can be used as part of a more extensive procedure, like an upper body lift after weight loss.

Partnering with the right surgeon is the most important decision you will likely make in optimizing the safety and results of your arm lift surgery. That’s why you should schedule a consultation with an experienced and highly trained board-certified plastic surgeon.

At Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, our brachioplasty procedures have helped thousands of patients achieve long-lasting results, including toned upper arms and improved body balance. As board-certified surgeons with decades of experience, we aim to deliver the best care, from your consultation to your surgery to your final result.

Before scheduling your brachioplasty, your surgeon will conduct a thorough medical screening. You’ll want to list all of your previous surgeries and disclose any chronic health conditions you may have. Your surgeon will also conduct a thorough examination of your arms to determine the best treatment option for you. Our team will gladly answer any questions you may have during your consultation and pre-op appointment.

If you are wondering how to afford arm lift surgery, don’t worry! Our Newport Beach staff can explain your financing options. Our financing partners offer payment plans that can help you manage your plastic surgery expenses.

Learn More About Arm Lift

Our board-certified surgeons in Newport Beach perform arm lift procedures at our outpatient surgical facility with general anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Occasionally, they may perform the procedure with oral sedation and local anesthesia. You and your surgeon can discuss and decide which option is better for you.

At Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery, our knowledgeable surgeons can use several different techniques for an arm lift procedure. Based on your personalized treatment plan and aesthetic goals, our highly-skilled surgeons may use liposuction alone to remove stubborn fat from your upper arms.

This technique will likely only require a few tiny incisions to break up and remove fat cells. They typically make an incision high up on the arm or within the underarm so that it is well concealed. In some instances, your surgeon may use liposuction in conjunction with other surgical techniques.

Patients with a larger amount of excess skin and tissue may require a larger incision, which will sometimes range from the elbow to the underarm. Depending on the severity of your loose skin, incision lengths can vary. Our expert plastic surgeons may tighten your underlying tissue and remove excess skin to improve your arm contours through the appropriate incisions.

After lifting and tightening your underlying tissues to give your arms a firmer and more contoured look, your surgeon will close your incisions and may secure them with absorbable sutures or stitches. They usually remove any stitches in a week or two following arm lift procedures. The brachioplasty (arm lift) procedure itself lasts around two to three hours.

Your recovery from an arm lift will depend on the techniques used. Following surgery, your incisions may be covered with bandages, and your arms may be loosely wrapped in elastic sleeves. Your Newport Beach surgeon may also choose to place drainage tubes, which they typically remove a couple of days after surgery.

It’s important to arrange for a ride home after your procedure. We recommend having a friend or loved one with you on the day of your surgery. You may also want to arrange for some household help for a few days following your procedure. As with any surgery, it’s important to closely follow your surgeon’s post-op instructions to ensure you heal properly and achieve the best results.

After an arm lift, you can expect swelling and general discomfort for several days. Your surgeon may prescribe pain relievers and antibiotics as necessary. It’s important to rest during this time to allow your body proper time to heal. You may need to take it easy for a week to focus on recovering at home. You should limit arm movements, exercise, and other strenuous activities until cleared by your surgeon.

As swelling fades, you will start to enjoy your arm lift results. It’s important to know that it may take a few months for the swelling to subside completely. After this time, you may want to flaunt your more toned upper arms with the reduction of excess skin and volume. Go ahead and do so! Patients often choose to start shopping for clothes they had avoided before surgery, including sleeveless blouses and dresses, tank tops, or short sleeve shirts. It’s amazing to see the confidence boost that this procedure can instill and how it positively changes our patients’ lives.

Any incision marks should continue to fade with time. The results of arm lift procedures are long-lasting as long as you maintain a healthy weight.

You may wish to consider an arm lift if you feel that the undersides of your upper arms are loose and saggy. This procedure can benefit a wide range of Newport Beach patients, from those who have undergone dramatic weight loss to those experiencing the natural effects of aging. In general, an arm lift may benefit patients with the following concerns:

  • Hanging skin tissue due to the natural aging process
  • Stretched skin caused by weight loss
  • Pockets of stubborn fat on the upper arms

Both healthy men and women may benefit from an arm lift. To be a successful candidate for arm lift surgery, you should be within a healthy weight range and have realistic expectations about the procedure.

Although the procedure can address pockets of stubborn fat with liposuction techniques, remember that brachioplasty (arm lift) is not a weight loss procedure. If you are significantly overweight, or if your weight fluctuates heavily and regularly, your results from arm lift surgery may be limited.

Our board-certified surgeons are experts in surgical contouring procedures, including arm lifts. They have decades of combined experience and have helped thousands of Newport Beach patients achieve their cosmetic goals. They can meet with you virtually or in person to discuss your concerns and determine if an arm lift is right for you.

Generally speaking, the cost of an arm lift depends on several factors, such as your geographic location and the surgeon’s experience. The national average cost for an arm lift procedure is $4,861However, this price does not include anesthesia, operating room facility fees, and other possible expenses, such as prescription medications.

Your total expense will also be based on your unique procedure and its complexity, as well as whether you only have liposuction or also require other techniques. We encourage you to consult with your surgeon at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery for a more accurate cost estimate.
