Dr. Khang Nguyen

Dr. Nguyen is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon with expertise in aesthetic surgery and breast reconstruction. Dr. Nguyen is passionate about helping patients make informed choices that lead to ideal outcomes. He strives to make highly technical procedures approachable for all patients, so that they are confident in their decision to undergo surgery.

Education and Training

Dr. Nguyen completed his undergraduate education at Harvard University, where he was awarded the Weisman International Internship for HIV research in Southeast Asia and where he graduated with Latin honors in Biology. He then attended the Feinberg School of Medicine at Northwestern University where he did a yearlong fellowship in wound healing research. Following medical school, Dr. Nguyen completed a comprehensive residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Northwell Health, one of the largest health systems in New York and the United States. Finally, Dr. Nguyen completed an advanced fellowship in Microvascular Surgery and Breast Reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania in order to offer his patients the most advanced techniques in the field of plastic and reconstructive surgery.

Notable Achievements

Dr. Nguyen has conducted research in wound healing and tissue regeneration, breast reconstruction, and aesthetic surgery. His publication in wound healing research was awarded the Anita Roberts Award for Best Research Article by the Wound Healing Society. Additionally, Dr. Nguyen has performed hundreds of breast reconstruction surgeries with abdominal and thigh tissue transfer (DIEP and PAP flaps) which combine cosmetic body contouring surgery with breast reconstruction techniques to help restore the appearance and confidence of women overcoming breast cancer. He previously started the microsurgical breast reconstruction program at two major hospitals in southern Arizona. Patients seek Dr. Nguyen’s expertise to achieve beautiful, natural, and long-lasting results.

Medical Mission Work

As a board member of the Mission Plasticos Foundation, Dr. Horowitz travels abroad several times a year to developing countries to perform much-needed reconstructive surgeries on children and underserved community members. He also trains local surgeons in these areas on modern reconstructive surgical techniques to help pass on his expertise.
