Breast Reduction

Breast reduction surgery may take two to five hours or longer, depending on your specific needs and the techniques used. As each patient has unique concerns and goals, breast reduction surgery can include a variety of methods to achieve desired results. Breast reduction techniques may include lifting and sculpting the breasts, repositioning the nipples, and reducing the areola size.

At Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, we typically perform reduction mammaplasty under general anesthesia for your comfort. Our plastic surgeons often make incisions around the areola, down the breast, and under the breast crease. The placement of your incisions will depend on the amount of tissue your doctor will remove and your goals for your breasts. 

After making incisions, your surgeon may use liposuction techniques to reduce pockets of fat in the area. After reducing the size of your breasts, your surgeon will use breast lift techniques to address stretched tissue and sagging skin. They may also reposition your nipples to fit with your newly shaped breasts. All of this will be discussed in-depth during your consultation so your surgeon understands your personal desires and you know what to expect prior to surgery.

Your incisions may leave visible scarring. However, these scars will fade over time, and the benefits of breast reduction surgery often far outweigh any scarring concerns. Additionally, we offer a wide range of scar therapy treatments, including topical creams and laser treatments, which can help during and after the healing process.
