How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?
September 1, 2024
Achieving ideal curves is all about balance. When most of us imagine a sculpted female figure, we imagine a slimmer waist and proportionately curved hips, breasts, and buttocks. If you feel like your butt is not maintaining its part of this harmony, a Brazilian butt lift might be right for you. This procedure uses your fat to enhance your buttocks and give you the rounder, fuller curves you hope to see.
What is a Brazilian Butt Lift?
While celebrity butts go in and out of fashion, a shapely hourglass figure remains in style. While you might associate a Brazilian butt lift (BBL) with an exaggerated shape, the results of this body contouring procedure can be as subtle or dramatic as you prefer. A BBL can help you achieve an extra boost of volume and shape that enhances your natural figure in all the best ways.
How Does a Brazilian Butt Lift Work?
A Brazilian butt lift is a form of fat transfer. During the first step of the procedure, your Pacific Center surgeon will use liposuction to remove fat from a targeted area of your body, often the abdomen, hips, or waistline. This process gives your surgeon healthy, living fat cells that can be transferred to your buttocks.
Your surgeon injects the fat cells into the layers of tissue in your buttocks to build up volume and shape. Since each person starts with a different shape and has different goals, this step requires both surgical skill and an artistic eye to create a pleasing result. The amount of fat used will depend on your desired appearance.
The success of a BBL relies on fat grafting, the process by which fat cells taken from another part of the body become established in a new area. The fat cells placed into your buttocks will establish a blood supply and settle in for a lifetime. Since not all the fat cells will successfully become established, your surgeon often places a bit more fat than is expected as a final result.
What is Recovery Like After a Brazilian Butt Lift?
While recovery is a vital part of any plastic surgery procedure, it is especially important for a BBL. Your buttocks and the area where you had liposuction may be swollen and sore, and you will have a compression garment to support you while you heal.
You should not put weight on your buttocks, sitting or lying down, for at least two to three weeks after your BBL to allow the fat to settle. You may be able to return to work after a week or two while sitting on a special cushion. However, more physical jobs may require up to four weeks off, and you will usually need six to eight weeks to resume your full exercise routine.

Am I a Good Candidate for a Brazilian Butt Lift?
When you arrive for your Brazilian butt lift consultation, your surgeon will review your medical history, medications you are taking, and other health information. They will also discuss your goals and whether a BBL can reasonably achieve them. Good candidates for this procedure must be in good health and prepared for the necessary recovery time.
While people tend to prefer the results of a BBL, butt implants are also available. Your surgeon may recommend implants if they feel like they will help you see the results you want. People with certain medical conditions should not have buttock augmentation.
What Results Will I See With a Brazilian Butt Lift?
While waiting several weeks for the fat in your buttocks to become established can be frustrating, the results are more than worth it. You will see some minor changes in size and shape as swelling resolves and the fat grafting process occurs. Within a few months, your butt will have achieved its full, round shape.
Once established, the transferred fat cells will remain in place for a lifetime, although they can change in size if you lose or gain weight. The best way to keep your results looking firm and lifted is to maintain a consistent weight and lead a healthy lifestyle.
I had a breast augmentation done in May of this year. The experience was better than I anticipated. Dr. Champion was amazing to work with and everyone that I interacted with at the practice was great! After wanting to get a breast augmentation done for almost 20 years I am so happy with my results!
