What Treatments Can Reduce Cellulite?

September 1, 2023

The dimpled appearance of cellulite can make you want to cover up even on the hottest days. If you dread wearing clothes revealing cellulite, we have the tools in Newport Beach to set you free. Cellulite treatment can smooth dimples and bumps to make your skin look smoother. We offer several options so we can help you choose the best one for you!

What is Cellulite?

Cellulite occurs due to fibrous bands (septae) made of collagen that form under the skin. These bands can become attached to the overlying skin, pulling it down and creating a dimpled appearance. The bands can also cause uneven fat bulging between them, creating a bumpy texture. Cellulite can affect anyone, even those without excess body weight, and can become more visible as your skin thins with age. Women are much more prone to cellulite and common cellulite areas include the butt, hips, and thighs.

Genetics, hormones, and lifestyle increase your risk of developing cellulite. You cannot usually remove cellulite with diet or exercise. These methods do not target fat under the skin where cellulite occurs. Effective cellulite treatment reduces the appearance of dimples and bumps that cause unevenness.

What Treatments Can Reduce Cellulite?

We offer a few effective methods for reducing the appearance of cellulite. They will allow nearly anyone to smooth the appearance of cellulite with minimal downtime and long-lasting results.

Cellfina® for Cellulite Treatment

This cellulite treatment method addresses the underlying causes of cellulite by targeting the fibrous bands under the skin. Cellfina® uses a handheld device inserted into the fatty layer under the skin. This device separates the bands from their attachments, freeing your skin. The dimple caused by that fiber will disappear, and the surrounding fat will become more even.

Since these fibrous bands will not grow back, Cellfina® offers a lasting cellulite solution. It works best for deep, noticeable dimples or an uneven “orange peel” texture. Since this treatment addresses the primary cause of cellulite, your dimples will often disappear completely.

Fat Transfer for Cellulite Treatment

Some people benefit from fat transfer as a cellulite treatment. Fat transfer uses liposuction to collect fat cells from a donor area. After cleaning and preparing these fat cells, we inject them into dimpled or uneven areas of cellulite. Using our artistry and experience, we can fill in dimples and smooth uneven spots with your own body fat.

These fat cells will establish themselves in their new location, making your results long-lasting. While the underlying structures may change over time, your transferred fat cells will continue to fill in dimples and give you a smoother appearance.

Non-Surgical Treatments for Cellulite

Our state-of-the-art MedSpa, the BioSpa in Newport Beach, offers non-surgical solutions for cellulite including energy-based devices and injectables. Depending on the location and severity of your cellulite, non-surgical solutions may be a good option for you. During your cellulite treatment consultation, we can discuss all of the available options and create a custom treatment plan to help you achieve the best results.

Am I a Good Candidate for Cellulite Treatment?

Men and women with mild to severe cellulite make good candidates for treatment. Most people are candidates for Cellfina®, fat transfer, non-surgical solutions, or a combination of treatments. Ideal candidates for cellulite treatment have reasonable expectations and no major health problems.

You may not be a good candidate if you have certain medical issues, such as bleeding disorders. Only a consultation can determine whether cellulite treatment is right for you. Each person’s cellulite looks different and responds differently to treatment.

What is Recovery Like After Cellulite Treatment?

Cellfina® and fat transfer require minimal recovery time. While you can resume most of your usual activities after Cellfina®, it’s typically recommended to limit strenuous activities for at least 24 hours. This minimally invasive treatment will not require sutures or special post-treatment care.

Since fat transfer uses liposuction, you may have some swelling and bruising in the liposuction area. You may also feel some minor soreness in the injection areas. Any discomfort should fade within a few days. Your team will instruct you on caring for the fat cells as they settle into their new location.

A non-surgical medical spa solution for cellulite will have little to no downtime. Some treatments can even be done on your lunch break. A series of treatments may be recommended, so we aim to make them as convenient as possible!

What Results Can I Expect After Cellulite Treatments?

You will see results after Cellfina® immediately. The dimples can take several days to rebound after being released. Skin and fat will become increasingly smooth and even over the following weeks. Since Cellfina® cuts the fibrous bands, they immediately release the skin for rapid results.

After fat transfer, you will notice increased smoothness after treatment. However, you will also have swelling that can make it difficult to see your final results. The swelling should fade within days, and your transferred fat will establish itself and form a blood supply, a process called grafting. Once grafted, the remaining cells last a lifetime.

Results from non-surgical cellulite treatments vary. It may take a few weeks or a couple months to see the final results depending on the number of treatments required. We will let you know what to expect for your specific cellulite treatment plan during your consultation.

Dr. Nichter and Dr. Horowitz have been treating me for the last 20 years and I am extremely happy to say that I am pleased with my results. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful when scheduling my procedure. Dr. Nichter was thorough and reassuring when explaining my unique situation which happened to be calcification of my breast implants. He went into depth to figure out the cause and was able to perform an implant exchange for me. I would recommend visiting this office and these talented doctors to my friends and family any day.
