What is a Thread Lift?
A thread lift is a facial rejuvenation procedure that uses delicate surgical threads to elevate sagging skin on the face. It is commonly used to lift sagging brows, cheeks, and jowls for a more youthful facial appearance. There are no facelift incisions made and no visible scars.

A local numbing agent will be used to ensure the procedure is completely comfortable. Dr. Nichter or Dr. Horowitz will then make a needle entry point into the skin to insert the thin filament. They will then lift and secure the deeper layers of the skin. After just a short 45-minute procedure, you will immediately see the result.
What is Recovery like After Thread Lift?
After treatment with the thread lift, mild side effects such as swelling, bruising, and soreness can be expected. This should resolve in about 5 days and patients should plan for this time off work. Over the next 4-6 weeks, patients can begin to notice a subtle lifted appearance.
Traditional Thread Lift
The thread lift was removed from the market almost a decade ago. The original thread lift was around in the late ‘90s and was performed on patients until the mid-2000s. The sutures used in the past were permanent barbed sutures, which had a history of not providing enough hold and would sometimes snap.
New Thread Lifts
Today, updated technology has brought back a newer, safer version of the thread lift such as the Silhouette InstaLift®, which uses biodegradable dissolving sutures with soft cones. These new sutures ensure the lifting necessary to hold your skin. The FDA has approved them for lifting the mid-face.
Silhouette Instalift
SILHOUETTE INSTALIFT® is the newest non-surgical facelift procedure aimed at lifting sagging skin and reducing the signs of facial aging. In one simple 45-minute procedure, requiring no surgery and no downtime, you can walk out looking years younger.
It is a minimally invasive facelift procedure which uses fine biodegradable sutures placed deep beneath the skin to lift and tighten. This suturing technique allows our doctors to reposition sagging tissue to a more youthful position. The sutures are inserted through tiny holes. No actual facelift incisions are made. Local anesthesia is used to ensure there is no discomfort during the procedure. The results are immediate. Results can last up to two years but will vary patient to patient.
The InstaLift® has been approved by the FDA for the mid-face. Areas of improvement can be seen in the cheeks down to the jowls and chin line.
NOVA Thread Lift
The NOVA thread lift is a nonsurgical technique used to address common signs of aging on the face such as wrinkles, folds, and sagging. Using threads composed of polydioxanone (PDO), the skin is tightened to give a subtle, lifted appearance. NOVA threads are dissolvable, and once absorbed, the body’s natural collagen is stimulated to fill in wrinkles and folds.
The NOVA threads can be placed virtually anywhere on the face and body but are most often used as a nonsurgical alternative to the face or neck lift. They can be inserted in the cheeks, eye area, forehead, brows, around the mouth, under the chin, and in the neck to give a lifted appearance.
The NOVA thread lift requires no incisions and can be performed in-office. A thin needle will be used to load the NOVA thread. The NOVA thread will be inserted below the surface of the skin, and the needle is removed, leaving the thread in place.
Thread Lift Results
The results of the thread lift will vary depending on the types of threads that were used and the specific concerns being addressed. Patients can typically notice immediate results from their procedure for a natural-looking lift and younger appearance. Results of a thread lift will continue to become apparent over the next 8-9 months, lasting for several years thereafter.
