What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation involves tightening the vaginal structure and can also include rejuvenation of the vulva and labia. Surgical techniques are used to achieve a more balanced labia and toned vaginal structure. Our Newport Beach Vaginal Rejuvenation patients report feeling more confident and comfortable after their procedure.
Who can Benefit from Vaginal Rejuvenation?
Vaginal rejuvenation can benefit women with the following concerns:
- Long labia majora (outer lips) or labia minora (inner lips) that cause physical or emotional discomfort
- Tugging of the labia minora during sexual activity or when wearing tight clothing
- Changes to the vaginal structure with age or after childbirth
To be a successful candidate for vaginal rejuvenation, you should be prepared for surgery and some downtime.
How is Vaginal Rejuvenation Performed?
Vaginal rejuvenation is performed in-office with the use of local or general anesthesia for your comfort. During vaginal rejuvenation, the following techniques may be used:
Vaginoplasty
The goal of a vaginoplasty is to improve the vaginal anatomy by removing excess tissue and repairing the muscles that create the sensation of tightness. This procedure is typically performed to address changes after pregnancy or with age and create greater sensation and pleasure for our patients and their partners.
Labiaplasty
A labiaplasty is a technique used to address the length of the labia minora. During a labiaplasty procedure, excess tissue is surgically removed from the labia to improve their size, shape, and symmetry. Popular methods to achieve this include trimming away the excess skin or removing a strategically shaped flap of skin to help create a more desirable shape. Your surgeon will use dissolvable sutures to close any incisions.
Labia Majora Rejuvenation
For some, having overly long or large labia majora can be uncomfortable. During a labia majora reduction, excess tissue is surgically removed. Others may want to enhance the symmetry or contour of the labia majora and can do so with a fat transfer to the area.
The procedure is performed similarly to a labiaplasty, and trimming away excess skin is often a common technique used. A combination of different approaches can sometimes be combined with a labia majora and labia minora treatment to help achieve harmonious results.
Clitoral Hood Reduction
During a clitoral hood reduction, excess skin is removed from above the clitoris. This procedure can be performed for aesthetic reasons, or to enhance sensation. This treatment is generally quick and relatively painless. Like a labiaplasty, the excess tissue will be removed. It is very common for a clitoral hood reduction to be performed alongside other vagina rejuvenation procedures, especially if a patient has a naturally long or disproportionate overlying skin flap covering the clitoris.
Pubic Reduction
Another option during vaginal rejuvenation is a pubic reduction, the fatty tissue in the pubic area is reduced using surgical techniques. At the same time, a lift can be performed to address any sagging in the pubic area. A public reduction can help to reduce the visibility through certain outfits or discomfort with tight clothing. Women who regularly experience a bunching of fabric or the dreaded “camel toe” might find this procedure is best for them.
Hymenoplasty
The hymen is a small piece of flesh that is found at the opening of your vagina. As women, losing the hymen is often thought of as a right of passage and something almost everyone will experience. In fact, many younger women lose their hymen through activities like horseback or bicycle riding.
However, in almost all cases, losing the hymen is associated with the act of losing your virginity or having sexual intercourse for the first time. A hymenoplasty is a procedure that can recreate the hymen and use the existing internal tissues to help create the vaginal opening that is natural in youth. This procedure is sometimes known as hymenorrhaphy or revirginization.
In many cases, this procedure is sought out by women who want to restore their hymen for cultural, religious, or aesthetic purposes. It is a fairly simple procedure to execute, with most patients being done in under an hour. In some cases, a small piece of tissue will need to be grafted from another area of the vagina to use for the hymen restoration.
Perineoplasty
The perineum is located between the anus and the vagina. Perineoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that addresses this area in detail. Also known as perineorrhaphy, this procedure can target and correct any deformities, imperfections, damages, or defects between the anus and vagina.
This is an especially beneficial treatment for women who have experienced childbirth or tearing of any kind. The perineoplasty can remove scar tissue, unsightly bulges, unwanted skin, and even tighten (or loosen) the perineal muscles and vagina.
In addition to helping enhance the overall appearance of your intimate areas, a treatment like this can also address issues like vaginal itching, laxity, painful intercourse, and even genital warts.
At PCPS, our talented surgeons will perform the perineoplasty in under an hour, and patients will be allowed a brief recovery time before they are cleared to go home safely.
Pubis Lift
As our weight fluctuates and experiences like pregnancy and childbirth occur in our lives, changes in the body are often noticeable, as well. For many of us, not only does weight accumulate in the stomach, but also the lower abdomen and flanks, hips, and even above your pubic areas.
A pubis lift is a procedure that can help to trim away and lift any loose, hanging skin or excess fat that may sit on or above the pubic mound. Different techniques may be used to achieve a slimmer, more youthful contour.
This plastic surgery procedure is also known as a monsplasty and can be achieved with or without techniques such as liposuction. Patients will have to take some time off work to recover and will not be able to engage in strenuous activity, including sexual intercourse, for up to three weeks after surgery. Full results start to show around four to six months.
Clitoroplasty
For trans women or nonbinary people, a clitoroplasty can be an integral part of gender confirmation surgery or treatment. No matter what path you chose, having options available to you can make all the difference when on a journey such as transitioning.
For cis-gender patients, this can refer to a grouping of procedures to change the size, shape, or appearance of the clitoris. In our office, the most commonly requested of these procedures is the “hoodectomy” or clitoral hood reduction exposing more of the clitoris for greater stimulation.
Recovery After Vaginal Rejuvenation
After vaginal rejuvenation Newport Beach patients should get plenty of rest for several days. You should plan for about a week off work depending on how strenuous your job is. Loose clothing should be worn and pressure to the area should be avoided for several weeks. This includes sexual activity and strenuous exercise. Some swelling and general discomfort can be expected for the first few days and can be managed with pain medication and an ice pack.
Vaginal Rejuvenation Results
Once swelling and discomfort have subsided, you can enjoy the results of your vaginal rejuvenation procedure. Your results will depend on the techniques performed, but patients typically report feeling more confident and comfortable after their vaginal rejuvenation procedure. The results of your treatment are long-lasting and age naturally with the rest of your body.
