Facial Rejuvenation: Four Aspects in Turning Back Time

January 13, 2017

The first and most important is the dimension of time and the ability to make you look ten years younger in two hours or less. The other dimensions include: 2) the skin’s surface, 3) skin and muscle laxity, and 4) volume which also changes as we age. We have a variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments to get you to that fourth dimension of time.

We always provide a custom plan for our patients depending upon their goals and needs. Some patients will benefit from surgical and non-surgical treatments. Others may be reluctant to have surgery or do not have the time to allow for adequate healing because of jobs or social obligations.

The second dimension of the skin surface is critical.

As we age our skin loses its luminosity and clarity. We develop moles, sun damage, broken capillaries, lines and other textural issues. The lines are both static and dynamic and we have many options to treat all of these changes Chemical peels and laser treatments are some of the most common tools to create change and improve the skin quality and health. Photofacial’s / Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) will change the cell structure and make the skin younger and healthier over time, removing premalignant and superficial cancer changes. Botox and other similar medications will decrease the active muscles that create an angry and tired appearance Other technology , including radiofrequency, ultrasound , and infrared sources can tighten the skin, improving a facelift and helping with long term maintenance . These devices heat up the tissue shrinking the collagen. Ultherapy, Thermage, Thermismooth and RF Microneedling are examples of such devices. These non-surgical treatments may be sufficient for younger patients with better quality skin.

The next dimension is the laxity of the skin and muscle.

Treatment of this dimension is frequently best accomplished with surgery. The LiteLift® is our modified facelift that I developed around 2008 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tZ57kDXz_k). We have popularized this vertical lift and do hundreds each year. The average plastic surgeon only does about 25 facelift each year. My patients were requesting a simpler lift that could be done under local anesthesia in the office with quicker healing. The LiteLift® can improve the neck, jowls, lower face and cheeks. This procedure takes less than two hours, meets the needs of the majority of our patients, and has been very successful for our patients who refer friends continuously. This is not your mothers facelift. The LiteLift® is a natural looking facelift with minimal incisions that heal well and are hard to detect.

Volume is the last dimension.

With time the volume of fat, bone, and muscle changes in our face. This volume supports the overlying skin. Our heart shaped face becomes more oval as the fullness drops down to our jowls and neck. Marionette and nasolabial folds appear. Our nose drops, our lips thin and lengthen.

The treatment is to add volume where it is needed: temples, hollow above and under the eyes, cheeks, folds. We have many options starting with your own fat to using manufactured fat such as Allofil. Hyaluronic Acids (HA) such as Juvederm and Restylane are very common. Others products with unique properties can last longer and be used in different areas for special purposes. (Radiesse, Bellafil, Sculptra, etc.) Some fillers perform better when the overlying skin is tighter.

So the Dimension of Time, and turning back the clock 10 or 15 years is totally achievable in a variety of ways. Why do our patients desire these changes? Both men and women in multiple surveys just want to look better or younger. Men are also motivated by the desire to be competitive both socially and at work.

Wow! Not only am I thrilled with my results, I also must say that this experience was so much easier than I thought it would be! From the virtual consultation, to the virtual appointments that I had after my surgery… they made it so easy to check in with my doctor. I don’t live in Newport, but it didn’t matter. I was still able to get the surgery that I wanted there! 10/10 would recommend!!
