What is the Controlled Depth Blue Peel?
The Controlled Depth Blue Peel, also commonly known as an “Obaji Peel” is a medical-grade chemical peel, used to treat a variety of skin concerns. The Blue Peel used a formula composed of trichloroacetic acid (TCA) mixed with a specially formulated blue base that controls the depth of penetration. The exact depth of the peel and the number of layers applied can be customized based on your unique skin concerns and their severity.
The Controlled Depth Blue Peel can treat a range of skin concerns at and below the surface including:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun spots
- Age spots
- Acne scars
- Uneven pigmentation
- Other blemishes
The Controlled Depth Blue Peel offers significant improvements to the skin with just one treatment session. The Controlled Depth Blue Peel is most commonly applied to the face and neck, but it can also be used on the chest, arms, and legs to improve the overall health of the skin.
To begin treatment, local anesthesia or topical numbing cream may be used to maximize your comfort. The Controlled Depth Blue Peel formula is then applied to the skin, one layer at a time. Your treatment can take about 20 minutes to complete, depending on the number of coats needed. A bluish tint will remain on the skin for several days.
After the Controlled Depth Blue Peel, you might feel tired from the sedation and local anesthesia wearing off. You should plan for someone to take you home from the procedure, and you’ll want to plan on taking it easy for the first day. You can shower the day after your treatment, but do not shave the treatment area. You should also avoid itching and sleep on your back to keep any pressure off the face. You will be provided with moisturizer and everything else necessary to keep the skin clean and comfortable after treatment.
For 7-10 days after the Blue Peel is applied, the skin will have a bluish tint. This will continue to fade as the outer layer of skin begins to peel. Once peeling occurs, you will notice red/pink skin underneath. The new skin may be extra sensitive for a few weeks, so avoid sun exposure. During a follow-up appointment, the remainder of the peel will be removed to reveal your results. You can expect smoother, younger-looking skin after your treatment with the Blue Peel.
