What is a Brow Lift?

A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift, is a cosmetic surgery procedure that addresses aging in the upper face, including the brows and forehead. With a brow lift, patients can significantly rejuvenate their appearance by addressing deep lines, wrinkles, and sagging around the eyebrows. The brow lift can be performed alone or can be combined with another surgical procedure like a facelift or eyelid surgery to achieve a younger appearance.

Who can Benefit from a Brow Lift?

A brow lift is a great procedure for those who have begun to experience facial sagging with age. Sagging occurs in the upper face due to gravity, repeated facial expressions, and a loss of collagen in the skin. Both men and women choose the brow lift when they want to significantly improve the appearance of their upper face by targeting:

  •         Low or sagging brows causing a tired or angry appearance
  •         Hidden eyes due to excess tissue from the brows
  •         Deep creases in the forehead

Good candidates for the brow lift should be ready for a surgical procedure with some recovery and downtime. If you aren’t quite ready for surgery, you may choose a less invasive option instead, like Botox. While the brow lift can effectively address the eyebrows and forehead, it will not eliminate sagging from the eyelids. This may be improved by adding a blepharoplasty to the procedure.

How is the Brow Lift Performed?

Brow lift techniques vary depending on your concerns and their severity. Your brow lift with Dr. Horowitz and Dr. Nichter may include one of the following techniques:

Traditional Brow Lift

In a traditional surgical brow lift, a beveled incision technique is used to hide scarring within the hairline without causing noticeable damage to the hair follicles. The exact placement of your incisions will depend on where sagging is present; either the inner, outer, or entire brow. Once the appropriate incision is made, the underlying tissue will be tightened to lift the brows. Excess skin is then removed. This is performed under general or local anesthesia to ensure your comfort.

Endoscopic Brow Lift

Dr. Horowitz and Dr. Nichter also offer the advanced endoscopic brow lift technique. During this procedure, an endoscope is used to guide the procedure. This technique requires smaller incisions made within the hairline.

Temple Lift

A majority of patients age the side of their brow more than the inside portion and that is the only portion that is required to be lifted to return to a more youthful appearance. A limited scar technique is used only in the temple area usually behind the hairline.

Recovery After a Brow Lift

After a brow lift, incisions are taped and a light dressing is applied. This should be left on for one week to protect the incision sites. For several days following the procedure, some swelling, bruising, and general discomfort can be expected. After one week, makeup can be applied to conceal any lingering side effects. It is important to take the necessary time off work to properly rest and recover.

Brow Lift Results

Some lingering swelling and redness can hide your brow lift results; but as these begin to diminish over the next several weeks, you can begin to notice the improvement to your appearance and temple area. After several months or proper care and healing, you’ll be able to enjoy the final results of your brow lift, providing a rejuvenating appearance that is long-lasting. A brow lift can take years off of your appearance for a youthful look that still appears natural.
