Liposuction- Protect Your Investment

Liposuction is one of the more frequently performed procedures at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, CA. Traditional liposuction has been around for decades and remains the gold standard for fat removal. Year after year it ranks as one of the top plastic surgery procedures performed in the United States.

Liposuction is typically performed under general anesthesia, however for smaller treatment areas such as below the chin, local anesthesia is an option. Through tiny pinhole incisions, a suction device attached to a small cannula is inserted into the fatty areas between the skin and muscle, followed by removal of the fat using a pump or syringe.

The result is a slimmer more attractive appearance with improved contour. After recovery, patients report feeling more confident about their image and having more latitude with clothing.

One of the common misconceptions about liposuction, however, is that you can return to the same habits which led to having liposuction in the first place. While the fat cells removed with liposuction are gone forever, fat cells still remain in the treated area. With poor diet and lack of exercise, those cells can expand just like a balloon. There is not a special diet that needs to be followed after liposuction surgery, however as a general rule fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein should take the place of sugars, simple carbohydrates, and saturate fats. It is also recommended to eat several small meals throughout the day (shoot for 5) rather than fewer large meals. This will help maintain energy levels and keep you from binge eating on unhealthy foods. Hydration is often times neglected, but is equally as important to maintaining your results. Keep water on hand throughout the day and drink it frequently. This will help control hunger and help with digestion.

Liposuction is a wonderful surgical procedure which can improve the appearance of your stomach, hips, thighs, back, chin, neck, bra area, and more, but you can still gain weight after surgery if you return to unhealthy habits. Protect your investment by making lifestyle changes before your procedure. With healthy eating and an active lifestyle, you will enjoy your new improved body for years to come.
