IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants: A Win-Win for Women

In 2017, breast augmentation was the #1 cosmetic surgery procedure in the United States. That statistic hasn’t changed for over a decade. But just because the statistic hasn’t changed, that doesn’t mean that women’s options for breast implants have stayed the same.

New, innovative breast implant technology is now available. Women no longer have to choose between implants that look good but come with safety risks or implants that don’t look natural. After ten years of development and testing, IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants were approved by both FDA and Health Canada in 2014.

The IDEAL IMPLANT gives women a beautiful shape and a natural feel, and comes with a lower risk of rupture and capsule contracture than other implants on the market today. Women don’t have to worry about silent rupture with the IDEAL IMPLANT, and the incisions needed are smaller than those used for silicone gel implants.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Larry Nichter has over 20 years of experience in plastic surgery and is distinguished as an IDEAL IMPLANT Premier Surgeon. At his private practice, Pacific Center Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, California, Dr. Nichter has placed IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants in over 100 patients.

“One advantage of IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants is that the implant is placed into the body deflated and then once it’s in the pocket, it’s inflated and filled. Because it’s deflated, you can use a much smaller incision, so therefore, there’s less scarring involved with the IDEAL IMPLANT. A silicone gel implant, in comparison, is factory-filled without seams and so in order to have an implant that’s sizeable, unfortunately, we need to make an incision that will accommodate it. So that’s a big advantage, there’s far less scarring with the IDEAL IMPLANT.” – Dr. Larry Nichter

Not only does the IDEAL IMPLANT produce less noticeable scars after surgery, but there’s also no need to worry about silent rupture. Many women may not have heard the term “silent rupture” and what that means for breast implants. It is a term used to describe what happens when there is a leak in your silicone gel implants and you are not aware of it. Sticky silicone gel can leak out of your implants for any period of time and you may never know there’s a problem.

In fact, to actually detect a rupture in silicone gel breast implants, expensive MRIs are required by the FDA every two-to-three years, and even then the results are not 100% guaranteed. With the IDEAL IMPLANT, if the implant ruptures, you don’t need to have a scan. You can see there’s a leak just by looking in the mirror, because the implant will deflate slightly. And since the IDEAL IMPLANT is filled with saline, women can have peace of mind knowing that the saline solution will be harmlessly absorbed by the body.

“There’s no silent rupture. You don’t have to worry about, ‘Is it ruptured or not?’ You know immediately. If there was a rupture with a silicone gel implant, chances are you would need to remove the outer lining around it, which is a much larger procedure and may require drains and so on. Therefore, we don’t recommend that the IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implant is replaced 10-12 years, unlike a silicone gel implant. You can keep them in as long as you want. So therefore, there’s less lifetime surgeries.” -Dr. Larry Nichter

The advantages to IDEAL IMPLANT are many. There’s no silent rupture, they are filled with saline, the scars are less noticeable, you won’t have as many surgeries, but what about the look of the implant? With standard saline implants there’s no structure to keep the implants in place, so they tend to ripple and wrinkle under clothing. Many compare these implants to “water balloons” that don’t keep their shape.

But with IDEAL IMPLANT, you don’t have to worry about that either. IDEAL IMPLANT Structured Breast Implants are held together by a series of nested implant shells and two separate chambers that hold the saline. The unique internal structure controls movement of the saline for a more natural feel, while reducing folding and wrinkling. The edges of the implant also contour to the chest wall in a more natural way than other implants.

“Here you have something with all the advantages of a silicone gel implant, without the disadvantages. So, it’s a win-win situation. Invariably, the majority of my patients now pick IDEAL IMPLANT® Structured Breast Implants.” – Dr. Larry Nichter
