Primary Investigator for IRB#6604 Approved for Perfusion Analysis of Free Versus Pedicled TRAM Flaps.  This study objectively compares the differences in the perfusion to the free versus pedicled Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous (TRAM) flaps to help with future safety of flaps and better clinical decision making for the plastic surgeons. We are looking at a unique opportunity presented by a case study.

Primary Investigator for IRB#6604 Approved for Effects of Radiation Therapy on Perfusion of Free Muscle Sparing versus Pedicle Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous (TRAM) Flaps In Vivo.  This study objectively compares the differences in the perfusion to the free versus pedicled Transverse Rectus Abdominis Myocutaneous (TRAM) flaps after a period of radiation, to help with future safety of flaps and better clinical decision making for the plastic surgeons. We are looking at a unique opportunity presented by a case study.

Pending IRB:  IRB Application being submitted for Multicenter Retrospective Trial of VTE incidence in Chronic Spinal Cord Injury Patients undergoing PRS operations without Chemical or Mechanical DVT Prophylaxis.  This study will look at the VTE incidence at Rancho Los Amigos Rehabiliation Hospital in Downy, CA, and compare it to the already established VTE rates at Long Beach VA hospital.

Pending IRB:  IRB Application being submitted for Prospective Study of VTE incidence in SCI patients undergoing Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.  This study will measure the pre operative and post operative rates of VTE objectively.  This will shed more light on the true incidence of VTE and weather chemical and mechanical prophylaxis is warranted in the spinal cord injury patients.

Pending IRB: IRB Application being submitted for Internal Offloading’ – a new modality for the prevention of diabetic foot ulceration in the at risk patient. Dr Alan Widgerow is the PI and we will be enrolling patients with diabetic foot ulcers who will receive fat grafting to see if we can improve wound healing using stem cells available in the spun fat.
