Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery, in partnership with Plasticos Foundation and other local agencies, is launching a new medical initiative aimed at providing much needed reconstructive surgical care to individuals throughout California. The aptly named ReShapingLivesCA mission will offer reconstructive plastic surgery to residents who are unable to receive life-changing reconstructive surgery for reasons which include unstable housing, no health insurance and ineligibility for publicly sponsored programs. The launch of this critical new program will commence in October, Breast Cancer Month, with plastic surgeons Dr. Larry Nichter and Dr. Jed Horowitz providing breast reconstruction surgery to select Orange County women, free of charge. The doctors have chosen to initiate the program in Orange County as a way of giving back to the community which has given them so much over the 25+ years they have been practicing in the area.
If you are in a situation where you need breast construction surgery, but cannot afford the costs associated with having it, please click here complete an application for consideration. All applicants will be screened by the doctors. Those selected will be contacted by a member of the Plasticos Foundation team with further details.

Plasticos Foundation was founded in 1999 by Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Larry Nichter. In subsequent years his private practice partner, Dr. Jed Horowitz, joined forces to help expand the program. Plasticos Foundation strives to be an enduring philanthropic plastic surgery organization based on humanitarian intentions. By establishing host-country medical alliances, the Plasticos team is able to increase its impact by providing reconstructive plastic surgery to those in need, as well as, surgical training to residing doctors so proper care can be continued. Plasticos Foundation is comprised of dedicated volunteers who believe wholeheartedly in the mission of helping those who cannot help themselves.
Until this year, Plasticos Foundation only performed surgery in poverty stricken, underdeveloped countries outside of the United States. In these regions, children are frequently born with congenital disfigurements, which are often times perceived negatively by their society, thus resulting in a life filled with shame, pain, and hopelessness. In some areas, these children are hidden from others and never allowed to run, play, laugh, and thrive as a normal child.
Acute burns are another common disfigurement in impoverished areas. The use of kerosene to cook and heat can result in unintentional injury. Astonishingly, in some areas, girls are intentionally set ablaze as punishment for things society frowns upon. Plasticos Foundation is able to provide corrective surgery, so these children can work towards having a happy, normal life.
In early 2016, Plasticos Foundation expanded its efforts by performing post-mastectomy breast reconstruction surgery on recovering cancer patients. Reconstructive surgery is not typically offered in impoverished countries, and like the children mentioned above, society tends to reject these women, affecting their ability to work and support their families.
“Thank you for everything you have done for me in my recovery. Reconstruction has been for me a not only physical but emotional transformation. God put in my way angels who helped my body and my heart. You are true heroes and examples of life and profession, its commitment goes beyond the limits. Thanks Dr. Larry Nichter and Plasticos Foundation.” - Mary, Baja, Mexico.
