Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a safe and effective way to create long-lasting hair removal or even permanent hair reduction.   The treatment uses pulses of high-energy light to turn hair follicles dormant.   The laser device creates light of a single color that is able to target the hair shaft without damaging the skin’s surface and surrounding areas.  Depending on the color of skin and thickness of hair, different lasers are used to create the desired effect.

The laser hair removal will be achieved through a series of treatments, typically four to six, at intervals of six to eight weeks apart.  Results depend on the area of treatment, the skin color, and hair type.  Hair follicles appear in phases of activity and dormancy; this is why multiple treatments are necessary over a period of time.  During each treatment, the active follicles are targeted and rendered dormant.  Following each treatment, the amount and thickness of hair that re-grows is greatly reduced.  However, the hair may not be completely gone; thus, maintenance treatments are generally suggested at less frequent intervals- the maintenance varies from person to person.

Skin color can affect the results of laser hair removal.  In general, lighter skin allows for fewer treatments, as well as quicker and better results.  Darker skin often requires more sessions that display slower results.

Darker hair is easier to treat than light hair (blonde or red), because it absorbs more laser energy.  Furthermore, course hair will have the best results of laser treatment.

The common areas of treatment are: face, upper lip, neck, chest, underarms, back, abdomen, bikini line and legs.

Immediately following a treatment, patients often experience slight redness or bumps on the treated area.  This can be aided by a cold compress.  During the first two to three weeks after a treatment, the hairs will continue to shed from the follicles.

Laser hair removal is an effective and affordable way to remove unwanted hair and reduce or eliminate time spent shaving and tweezing.
