Am I a good candidate for plastic surgery?
Plastic surgery is ideal for those who are in good physical and mental health. Patients should have realistic expectations going into surgery and openly discuss one’s medical history and medical conditions. Your plastic surgeon can review all this information with you and determine whether you are a good candidate.
How do I prepare for surgery?
To maximize the results of your surgery, you should stop taking non-prescription supplements such as vitamins or herbal products 7 days prior to surgery. It is also recommended that you discontinue smoking at least 6 weeks before surgery to avoid complications with healing. If you are taking any anticoagulants such as aspirin, talk to your surgeon about how this will affect your procedure.
What is the recovery like for most procedures?
The level of pain depends on the individual. Some individuals tolerate pain better than others. For most facial cosmetic procedures there is usually less post-op discomfort. For body operations such as liposuction or breast augmentation, there may be a higher level of pain. Your doctor can prescribe the appropriate pain medication to help you manage the discomfort.
Is plastic surgery safe?
All surgeries carry some type of risk. However, these risks are greatly minimized when performed under the care of a well-qualified and skilled plastic surgeon. You should always discuss your medical history with your doctor first and follow post-operative instructions carefully to facilitate healing.
How do I choose a good surgeon?
Your choice of doctor is a critical decision. Start by looking at the credentials of a doctor and the level of experience. Is this doctor board certified? How many of the desired procedures has he or she done? Are the results similar to what you want? Is the facility comfortable and does the doctor use the latest technology? It is always a good idea to meet with the surgeon first for a consultation to get a better idea of whether the doctor is a right fit for you.
