Life-Changing Results

Eyelid Lift

Sagging, drooping, or tired-looking eyes can make you look older than you feel. In addition to aging concerns around the eyes, sagging eyelids can also reduce your field of vision. At Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach, we perform blepharoplasty, or eyelid rejuvenation, to improve the appearance of tired-looking eyes.

What is an Eyelid Lift?

An eyelid lift, or blepharoplasty, is a cosmetic surgery that removes excess skin, tissue, and fat deposits within the upper and/or lower eyelids to create a brighter, more youthful appearance. An upper eyelid lift can also address vision impairment caused by droopy eyelids.

At Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery, our experienced board-certified plastic surgeons strive to deliver the best blepharoplasty results Newport Beach has to offer. We perform both upper and lower eyelid surgery and can help you select the best treatment plan to achieve your goals.

During your eyelid surgery consultation, your experienced Pacific Center surgeon will ask you questions about your past surgeries, medical history, and any current medical conditions. They will also ask you about your desired outcome for your eyelid lift in order to formulate an individualized treatment plan.

Our team has helped thousands of patients achieve their desired results and will provide you with the highest standards of care throughout your treatment journey. Additionally, we can help you manage your surgery expenses through our various financing options

Learn More About Eyelid Lift

Depending on your treatment plan, blepharoplasty can be performed in our Newport Beach office or at an outpatient surgical facility. Eyelid lift procedures are typically performed using local anesthesia with oral or intravenous sedation. In some cases, your doctor may use general anesthesia, depending on your health, comfort level, personal preference, and the procedures performed. Our team will explain the options and the benefits of each at your consultation appointment.

During an upper eyelid procedure, your plastic surgeon will make an incision hidden within the crease of your upper eyelid and extending toward the temple. Typically, they will remove a small triangle of tissue in the upper eyelid by the outside corner of the lid to help raise the brow. This eyelid procedure is known as the “California Lid Lift,” and it can remove excess fat and eliminate external skin incisions.

The incision for a lower eyelid lift lies just below the eyelashes and parallel to the lid edge. It may also extend for a short distance toward the temple. In certain cases, surgeons make lower lid incisions inside the lid if excess fat pads are causing a cosmetic issue, which is often seen in younger patients.

After making incisions, your surgeon may remove excess skin and tighten the surrounding muscles to give you a younger-looking, refreshed appearance. Finally, your surgeon will close your incisions with dissolvable stitches. Eyelid lift incisions usually become inconspicuous, as eyelid skin is known for healing especially well.

Eyelid surgery takes around two hours to complete if your surgeon treats both the upper and lower eyelids. Our board-certified surgeons may recommend blepharoplasty in combination with other surgical procedures, such as a brow liftfacelift, or skin resurfacing treatments, for improved rejuvenation results.

Eyelid rejuvenation is considered one of the least painful cosmetic procedures and offers a quick recovery. After your blepharoplasty at our Newport Beach facility, our surgical team will closely monitor you in a recovery room. Once you are discharged, a close friend or family member should drive you home. You should also plan for someone to stay with you for the first 24 hours following surgery.

You may experience temporary symptoms following eyelid surgery, such as discomfort, swelling, numbness, blurred vision, sensitivity to light, or watery eyes. Using a cold compress and medications according to your surgeons’ instructions will help reduce these side effects. You should gently clean your eyelids and use prescribed eye drops or ointments if directed by your surgeon.

Generally, patients should avoid heavy lifting, swimming, and rigorous exercise for one week after surgery. It is also important to avoid rubbing your eyes as your incisions heal. You should not use contact lenses for approximately two weeks and should wear sunglasses to protect your skin from the sun and wind. We also recommend that you sleep with your head slightly elevated for several days.

Our expert team at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery will provide detailed post-op instructions to ensure you know what to expect for recovery and follow-up appointments.

The expert surgeons at Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery in Newport Beach always strive to provide patients with their ideal blepharoplasty results. It may take about six weeks for your full results to appear. At this time, you can expect your eyes to look lifted, rejuvenated, and more rested.

Eyelid lift results are usually long-lasting. Upper eyelid surgery may last five to seven years or more, and lower eyelid surgery may last indefinitely, depending on the patient. Sagging after a blepharoplasty typically takes many years or decades to appear. You can maintain your results longer with healthy practices and good skincare products.

You may benefit from a blepharoplasty if you experience the following:

  • Excessive sagging or wrinkled upper or lower eyelid skin
  • Excess upper eyelid skin that interferes with vision
  • Loss of the natural upper eyelid crease
  • Puffy pouches of fat in the upper or lower lids that create a tired or aged appearance
  • Orbital Rim Show: visibility of the bone under the eye, sometimes contributing to a dark ring or shadowing

Although there is no age requirement for blepharoplasty, many patients receive eyelid lift procedures when they are in their 30s or older. If you want to rejuvenate your appearance, improve your vision, or enhance your interaction with the world around you, eyelid rejuvenation may be the perfect treatment for you.

There are various factors that affect the cost of blepharoplasty, such as your geographic location and your provider’s experience. The national average cost of an eyelid surgery is $4,120This rough estimate does not include related expenses such as anesthesia and facility fees, however.

The total cost will depend on your unique procedure and whether you are having an upper, lower, or combined eyelid lift. Cost will also vary if you are having it performed in combination with other procedures. We encourage you to schedule a consultation with a Pacific Center board-certified surgeon for a more accurate cost estimate.
