Candidates for Surgery
Candidates for a Labiaplasty procedure are women who are concerned about the appearance of their labia or experience discomfort due to exceptionally large or long labia of either the inner our outer lips. Labia unevenness can result in discomfort with intimate contact, chronic rubbing, as well as psychological discomfort, which leads to the inability to wear certain types of tight clothing. Most women live with these symptoms, and actually are not even aware that a certain surgical procedure exists to help to correct this problem and restore their femininity.
Candidates of Vaginal Rejuvenation or Vaginoplasty surgery are women who desire a more youthful appearance and function of the vulvas and vaginal area. For some women, the effects of childbirth, aging, trauma, and/or genetics, causes their vaginal tissue and muscles to become stretched, which results in loss of strength and tone in the vaginal area. This can lead to unsatisfying intimate contact and discomfort.
These surgeries are best performed by carefully selected Plastic Surgeons or Gynecologists. As this is not a very common procedure it is important that you choose a specialist who has significant experience in these procedures, such as Dr. Nichter or Dr. Horowitz at the Pacific Center for Plastic Surgery to get the best result with the least number of complications.
The intended results of cosmetic labia and vaginal surgery are to return a youthful sensation and appearance to the labial and vaginal areas or in other cases, to remove physical and psychological discomfort.
The surgical procedure, Vaginoplasty, in many cases, can increase friction during intercourse, giving women more control of vaginal muscles, increasing sexual satisfaction, while also creating a more attractive and appealing appearance to the vaginal area.
The outcome of a Labiaplasty is a more youthful appearance, ability to wear all types of clothing without discomfort and/or embarrassment, and a more confident sex life.
During labiaplasty, the surgeon basically trims either the involved labia minora or majora, carefully removing excess and unnecessary skin to reduce discomfort, improve the appearance and aesthetically reshape the lips.
During the Vaginoplasty, the surgeon removes a segment of the vaginal lining and repositions the underlying muscles, resulting in noticeably tight inner and outer vaginal walls.
Generally, patients are able to walk comfortably within a few days and can return to work within a week.
Patients return to most normal activities immediately after surgery with the exception of activities that will create direct pressure on the area, such as certain exercise equipment and sexual activity. It will be necessary to refrain from these forms of physical activity for approximately 4-6 weeks.
Postoperative care will usually consist of sitz baths or soaking the area in warm soapy water starting approximately 2 days after a surgery. The sutures will dissolve over the course of several weeks.
Risks of Surgery
